Reaction to Phillies Dropping Game 1

Phillies helmet

I won’t pull a Michael Barkann and say this series is over, but Saturday afternoon’s Phillies loss to the Mets was brutal. Zack Wheeler’s brilliant 7 innings of shutout pitching was wasted by inept hitting after Kyle Schwarber hit a lead-off homer. The bullpen simply had nothing to offer, giving up 6 runs. Jeff Hoffman gave up 3 runs without recording an out. As pathetic as that is, the offense was the reason they lost. Trae Turner and Alec Bohm looked awful. Bryce Harper walked twice and had a hit. Nick Castellanos had a hit. But, really, outside of Schwarber, this team had nothing in a bullpen game for the Mets, who played 5 games since Monday. Blame the lay-off from the bye if you want, but they’re going to have to prove it starting tomorrow or this series will be over.
