Week 3 NFL, College Football Picks
My picks started out strong
last week, then crashed and burned. Notre Dame, Ole Miss, and Texas, rolled to
easy covers. Georgia never even threatened to cover against Kentucky, though
they won. My NFL picks went from bad to worse, as Dallas was done in the second
quarter against New Orleans, and the Eagles weren’t going to cover anyway, then
coughed up the game versus Atlanta.
I went 3-3 for -$16.60 on the
week, losing the two slightly bigger NFL picks.
I think we’re still in the mode
of trying to figure out what teams are good and bad. Is Dallas already becoming
their usual underachieving selves? Are the Saints really as good as they look?
What exactly are the Eagles? Are the Ravens a true 0-2 team? In college football,
how legit is Tennessee and Texas?
Here are my picks for this
week:
Tennessee -7 (-107) at Oklahoma
for $15 to win $14.10: Welcome to the season for both of these teams, neither
of which have played a serious opponent. I think the Vols offense overwhelms
the Sooners. This line jumped half a point from 6.5 when I saw it Thursday.
Miami -17 (-113) at South
Florida for $15 to win $13.35: The Hurricanes were coming on last season, and I
still think they’re slightly undervalued.
ND -28 (-107) vs. Miami (Ohio)
for $15 to win $14.10: I’m using the same logic as last week – after a bad loss
to Northern Illinois, the Irish will beat up weaker opponents and claim they’re
playoff worthy.
New Orleans -3 (+102) vs. the Eagles
for $15 to win $15.30: I’m trusting my eyes here, even though I’m 0-2 picking games
involving the Birds. The Saints are running teams out of the building (47 and
44 points), and the Eagles defense hasn’t impressed. I actually bumped this
line back up to -3 to avoid heavier “juice” after it dipped half a point. Hopefully,
it doesn’t cost me.
Kansas City -3 (-112) at Atlanta for $15 to win $13.50: I get that Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco is out, but I think people are overreacting. I’ve actually watched both of the Falcons’ games – the Steelers defense shut them down, and, as I mentioned, the Eagles defense has not been good, and Atlanta scored 22 points against them.
I didn’t plan to wager $15 on
every bet this week. I think it shows that I feel just a bit more confident
overall than I felt in the first two weeks. But, as I’ve been saying, it’s
still early in the season and I don’t want to go bigger too soon.
