thoughts on the Sixers and the NBA:

I’m not as convinced as
the Sixers seem to be that it’s a good thing that they are returning with the
same core group from last year. They are completely over blowing the idea that
it gives them an advantage early on. By the time the playoff push comes around
it won’t matter, and they won’t have enough to contend.           Writing
about yesterday’s Eagles debacle as the first productive thing I’m even
attempting to do after a long Thanksgiving weekend will probably be as ugly as
watching it as a fan. Outclassed by the New England Patriots, 38-20 in a game

          My seven week winning streak

week.


          It’s
tempting to call last night’s loss to the Chicago Bears, 30-24, a classic by
the Eagles. The game after a huge win that supposedly resurrects the season, a
game in which the Birds were heavily favored, and the Eagles look flat in the
first half, make a comeback, and lose.

          I
warned readers that I was just getting back into fantasy football, and last
week’s results certainly showed it. I finished 222nd out of 254 in

          It
wasn’t the “big” week I was looking for with my picks, but it’s hard to
complain about a fifth straight winning week. I lost my biggest pick of the
week, actually losing in the NFL with points thanks to the “juice,” but hit my
fourth straight 15-point pick in college football. Throwing in the MLB
playoffs, I went 5-2 for +19.50 points on the week.

          The Eagles
headed into the bye week with a 20-13 victory over the Washington Redskins and

          The Eagles capped off a week in Philadelphia
sports that might be remembered as the official end of one of the best eras
this town has seen since the early ‘80s. Sadly, it qualifies with just one

third straight winning week was short on picks but brought the highest weekly point
total since early July. With the MLB series pick on the Yankees-Tigers and the
parlay pick on the Rangers, Brewers, and Phillies, still pending, I essentially
went 3-1 for +29.29 points.

second straight winning week with picks was actually a little disappointing. I
had won my biggest two picks of the week, and felt very comfortable with the

          Last
night was simply the best night of baseball anyone has seen in years. And it
was just awesome to actually see all of it unfold thanks to
the MLB Network instead of having ESPN’s SportsCenter talking heads overhype
the drama and make it about themselves.

off, the Phillies went to the 13th inning in a game that was

          Yesterday I just happened to hear the
beginning of Jon Gruden’s interview with Tony Romo on ESPN and was dumbfounded.
I’m even more shocked by the lack of response. A buddy of mine asked what he
was smokin’ when he heard the question Gruden asked. Here’s my thoughts from

don’t have the stomach to go through a detailed breakdown of yesterday’s Eagles
loss to the New York Giants, mostly because I had an inkling that they were
going to lose (see Friday’s post)
and didn’t have the stones to make it a pick.


          The Eagles lost the game, 29-16, and likely
lost their quarterback for several weeks.


          This was a classic Eagles home opener.

I finally had a decent week of
picks, going 6-3 for +26.19 points. The winning week puts me in the black for
the season in both college and NFL football. I’m now at 4-3 for +11.73 points
in the NFL and 4-4 for +6.03 points. The NBA playoffs and Finals are still
weighing down the point total for the year, which is -300.50. I’m at +161.76
without the disastrous spring.

Dunta Robinson talking about how his hit on Jeremy Maclin inspired his team to
victory and was therefore worth the $40k fine he received for the cheap shot

NFL’s Week 2:



I think I’ll be checking this all season. This week 2 out
of 5 of the leading passers, including the first and third place guys lost
their games. 






The same is true of the top 5 leading rushers, with the

Fears about Michael Vick not
making it through the season healthy have already been realized for the Eagles.
The quarterback went out with a concussion in the second half last night, and
the team eventually dropped a 10-point lead and lost to the Falcons, 34-31.

The Phillies are so good that they clinched a playoff

It hasn’t been the best start to
the football season with my picks, but little damage has been done because I’ve
taken it slow to get a feel for the teams this season. I saw two known
handicappers offer big picks on the Steelers last week and lose the game as
easily as I did. The difference is I kept it as a pick just above my minimum.
