Not exactly a #Phillies fire sale; Victorino & Pence mostly for prospects? Eh. Not necessarily disappointing, but not exactly exciting either.

@HARRYMAYES975 has finally gone solo . . . but 10 to midnight? This puts WIP back in play til 2pm for me. Awful call by @975TheFanatic though I understand Mayes wanted the solo gig. May actually have to listen to some late night radio.

If I could trade just one guy? Jimmy Rollins. #Phillies need a real leadoff guy. Watching him flail away at ball 4 Friday night for a K instead of getting his butt on base in a one-run game was classic J-Roll.

Unbelievable day for the #Phillies! Sign Hamels, third straight dramatic comeback win, finally sweep a series . . . wow!

PSU Sanctions Basically Fair; Week-in-Review: Phils Excitement, Report - Hamels Signed, Vick’s “Dynasty,” more

The NCAA announced its penalties for Penn State in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal on Monday. While I still question their authority to act in this situation as it’s mostly a criminal matter, and I thought NCAA president Mark Emmert was rather sanctimonious in his delivery of the punishments, they may have actually handed out a reasonable punishment.           No one with any conscience needs to be told how horrific Sandusky’s crimes are, yet Emmert had an air about him that the parent had finally entered the room to handle the rowdy children. I keep thinking of the woman who called into sports talk radio shortly after 9/11 as people were debating when sports should resume. She screamed about how we should never have sports again. It was as if nothing fun should ever happen again in our country due to the tragic events of that day. Somehow in her distress she wanted to punish people who were even discussing sports by taking the games away.           Obviously,

Two great nights in July! #Phillies

Brian Baldinger, “They’ll never fill that stadium again” talking about PSU – absurd

Phreakin A! #Phillies comeback for a li'l excitement - finally!

A Slightly Extended Week-in-Review: Phillies near the Trade Deadline, PSU, more

It’s not really a Week-in-Review, but here’s a little rapid fire look at some of the hot issues since my last post: ·        The Phillies should absolutely re-sign Cole Hamels. He’s not only their best pitcher right now, he has the best potential future ahead of him. If Cliff Lee was tradeable for a couple solid everyday players, I’d do it in a heartbeat. I doubt the Phillies could get value for Roy Halladay because he’s just off the Disabled List, but I would see what might be out there for him. I would also shop Jonathan Papelbon. Obviously, since I wouldn’t have re-signed him, I would trade Jimmy Rollins. I’m not saying give anybody away, nor would I trade all of the guys I just mentioned. I agree with the idea that the Phillies need to see what the core players who brought so much success in recent years can do now that Chase Utley and especially Ryan Howard are back. But they do need to add at least one serious bat to contend next season even if the best case sce
