Halladay, Howard, Utley. TWO World Series championships might have made what the #Phillies (and fans) are experiencing worthwhile. Not sure one does.

Evaluating the Sixers

No one expected the 76ers to be playing during Memorial Day weekend when the playoffs began. While it was a fun extra couple weeks of basketball, no one should be fooled by the Sixers’ playoff run in terms of what needs to be done going forward with this team.           The minute Bulls guard Derrick Rose went down for the playoffs (and beyond) with an injury in the first game of the opening round against the Sixers, the series had a huge asterisk attached to it. When Joakim Noah went down two games later and never returned, the series meant absolutely nothing in terms of evaluating the Sixers. The fact is that the Bulls were winning that third game of the series rather handily when Noah turned his ankle. It’s very easy to think that after dealing with the shock of losing Rose in the last couple minutes of Game 1, which the Bulls had in hand at the time of the injury, they had mentally regrouped and might have at least made it a competitive series.           It astoni

Painful loss by the #Sixers; hate to sound like you-know-who, but the youth showed.

@HARRYMAYES975 Caller around 11 called ESPN journalists... ha! They push what gets ratings. ESPN HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH JOURNALISM.

I was skeptical of Iverson being brought back by the @Sixers but it came off perfect.

@Espngreeny @marcelluswiley You notice the Lakers aren't playing? So tired of the bias to the teams ESPN deems important.

Big @Sixers win & 9-10 @espngreeny gives us #Lakers, #Bird, and #Heat babble. C'mon, @975TheFanatic, gotta do better.

#Sixers. Game 7. Boston. BRING IT!! Great win, validates the season.

Saturday Night Live Impersonation of Stephen A.

This was simply too good not to bring back Hump Day Distractions for the week. Saturday Night Live had the funniest skit I’ve seen in years with an impersonation of Stephen A. Smith.

@975TheFanatic Time to drop @Espngreeny & Golic; Lakers lose 4-1 & 9-10 was "Kobe is the best;" bad as @MikeMiss LeBron love affair

Garnett rips Philadelphia fans Zzzzzzzzzz; only question is why report his babble?

Just listened to Lakers-OKC 1st Q more than watched; would've thought Lakers, who are losing, were way ahead w/ all the Kobe luv

Halftime show @NBAonTNT has reached new low; Barkley & @TheJetOnTNT were beyond stupid tonight. PGs shouldn't rebound? They're the punk kids who just shouted down the smart kids in high school.

Ugly night for Philly; #Sixers fell apart, #Phillies scored 1

Charles Barkley is the biggest #Sixers hater ever; Chuck, you never won a title, get over it.

Lost all respect for Mike Trico w/ the call of that second half. He couldn't kiss the ass of Wade & James more if he tried.

Shocking! ESPN guy backing Heat RT‏@Espngreeny The #Heat (pun intended) is on Wade ... My bet:He comes up huge.

#Eagles sign LeSean McCoy (@CutOnDime25); another good move. But they kept #Reid, so it's not going to matter.

Make it 5 straight for #Phillies and just 4 games out. Halladay even got the W despite the bullpen.

Tired of the @KingJames lapdogs defending him by blaming @DwyaneWade. When you're obnoxious enough to do "The Decision," you get the #heat.

Love the fact that @JonVilma51 is suing Roger Goodell. @nflcommish has run amuck over the NFL long enough.

Rough First Round for Picks

The hammer finally fell on my NBA parlay pick when the Bulls fell to the Sixers leading to a brutal 1-2 week for -117.11 points. The Sixers got me again when they eked out a win in Boston for -50 points. I at least won the second NBA series parlay with the Heat, Pacers, Celtics, and Lakers, winning their first round series for +32.89 points.

#Sixers blown out. Back to reality or blip on the radar? Somewhere in-between, but I'm thinking more reality than blip. Ironically this is the 4-5 seed type of series everyone expected them to play after their hot start.

Kyle Kendrick comes through for the #Phillies. Four straight Ws is four straight Ws this year.

Greg Oden's agent says he's talked about playing for the #Heat. What a guy. Real competitor.

Curt Schilling‏, on Twitter @gehrig38, is reportedly seeking government funding to salvage his company. I think he's completed the journey to perfect a-hole.

#Phillies win three straight, @VANIMAL_49 has to miss a start. Welcome to Phillies 2012.

Stern sounds as dumb as Kobe talking about flops. There's no need to create a rule. Don't call a charge, the flopper is on the ground, and the guy with the ball has an advantage.

Now Kobe's a hero for NOT taking charges. "I learned from my predecessors. Pippen had a [messed] up back taking charges." Shut up.

#Sixers got their most significant W since Larry Brown was coach last night; ugly basketball, but Turner looks like he's becoming a very good NBA guard. Iguodala played one of his best games; not highlight stuff, but seemed to me key shots and plays all game.

NBA Parlay Pick: Celtics -210, Thunder -410 for 50pts to win 41.41

@HowardEskin on Sports Final reported #Hamels wants 7 years with next contract. #Phillies should not have a problem with that. He's their ace now and in the future. Trade Lee if it's a money issue. Phillies need to replenish the minors anyway.

More impressed by the #Sixers L to the Celtics than any of their Ws against the injury ridden Bulls. This is where they can get experience and growth.

Is it possible the #Lakers extended Denver series to get Artest back? If Jackson was coaching, the question would be asked and he'd be credited as a genius.

Sixers - Celtics Thoughts

It’s tough to preview the second round of the NBA playoffs when the first round isn’t completed yet. But the Sixers – Celtics series tips off tonight, and I think it will be a more difficult series to predict than any other.           The Sixers’ presence in the second round was made possible only by the injuries to Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah. Praise Andre Iguodala all you want for the so-called last second heroics of hitting free throws to clinch Game 6 and the series against the Bulls. The fact that making free throws is the playoff highlight of his career says everything needed to be known about his career. More importantly, the Sixers as a team barely survived a series against the Bulls’ B-team. Even without Rose, it was fairly obvious the Bulls were a better team with a healthy Noah. Any notion that the series victory over the Bulls means anything in terms of where the Sixers are as a franchise is ridiculous.           Of course, the Celtics took six games to b

No way to be impressed by #Sixers series win over Bulls reserves; biggest asterisk ever; not historic

Even Cliff Lee delivering on the mound and at the plate couldn't save the #Phillies

Not buying Chris Carter put out bounties; talk about #faketough; why say it now?

After the 3rd HR, I'm thinking I stop pitching to Hamilton.

Starting to wonder if Howard & Utley would have made the #Phillies contenders; still assume yes, but . . .

#Sixers - Bulls 1st half was worst playoff basketball in years

Once again, only coronation for #Flyers came from fans last summer

Have to say I agree w/ Nats' GM on Hamels; #Phillies not really hurt by suspension though - he's pushed back 1 day

#Phillies lose another w/ Halladay on the mound; something's gotta change

Don't get Hamels plunking Harper; just b/c he's good? Dumb. That has zero to do w/ old school or unwritten rules.

At least #Phillies get one W in DC; don't see much changing this season

#Sixers were lucky all year playing teams w/ injuries; they're practically playing the Bulls' reserves

#Sixers, #Flyers in 3-1 series, and nobody thought the 76ers would be the team about to move on

It's all about Tonight, Tonight, Tonight for the #Sixers (Couldn't resist the Genesis reference)

No real panic after OT #Flyers loss, but Sunday seems like a must win (stating the obvious)

After the 9-inning shutout, Blanton has a better ERA than Halladay & isn't far from Hamels

Mariano Rivera tears ACL shagging flies; all those crying about D Rose & condensed schedule: SHUT UP

Think @RealMikeWilbon et al blame the sched? Nah, only do that w/ D Rose injury RT @ProFootballTalk Suggs tears Achilles [in off-season!]

Hypocrisy? Seau dies & NFL is brotherhood; bounties revealed & "everybody does it." #justaskin'

Absurd that Roger Goodell hears appeals on his own rulings; worse that NFLPA agreed to it.

Last night's loss by the #Phillies was a kick in the gut; Halladay blows a big lead, Phils get 6 more after falling behind, and still lose. Brutal.

Slow Start with Playoff Picks

I got off to a slow start with the NBA playoffs in terms of picks. With the series parlay picks still pending – and, thanks to the typically absurd scheduling of the first round, they could still be pending at this time next week – I went just 0-2 for -20 points on parlay picks last weekend.           On Saturday, the Pacers cost me what I thought was an easy money line parlay pick with the Bulls -520, Heat -500, Pacers -600, and Thunder -380, for -5 points. On Sunday I was a little more aggressive, and the Celtics cost me a pick of the Lakers -4.5 and Celtics +1.5 for -15 points.           Suddenly, the Bulls are my biggest concern with the series parlay picks after the Derrick Rose injury. With my points that I can lose without feeling any loss all pending, I won’t have any more picks until at least the second round – let’s hope that starts before Memorial Day.

Junior Seau's death is almost as sad as the comments section on the ESPN story. 1000+ w/in minutes, mostly asinine and/or petty. It's at the point where websites just shouldn't allow commenting.

#Flyers lose giving up 4 in the 3rd...ugly.

Much needed W for the #Phillies vs Atlanta; thing people are missing: Charlie never managed "small ball;" doubt he can change stripes now.

#Sixers run over the Bulls; suddenly Game 3 is huge; W alone wasn't big, but blowout after Rose injury could be.

#Phillies get a split with the Cubs; just May 1 and already feels like a long summer.

#Flyers also going to @975TheFanatic raises the question: when do we just bury the #WIP corpse?

Liked #Sixers jumping to @975TheFanatic first b/c it's a sign they're no longer the throw-in on deals w/the #Flyers.

For guys like @RealMikeWilbon to suggest D Rose injury is caused by the condensed schedule is stupid. It's an ACL, not a wear & tear injury.
