@MelKiperESPN said draft could springboard #Eagles to SB; to quote Andy Reid, Uh, no.

#Flyers game actually looked like playoff hockey

@AdamSchefter seems to love the Eagles' draft; we'll know how good it was in about 3 years

Fact that most still think #Sixers lose to the Bulls w/out Derrick Rose (I agree) says volumes about the home team

So much for sweeping the Cubs; #Phillies need more than a gimpy Howard & Utley back

NBA Parlay Pick: Lakers -4.5, Celtics +1.5, for 15pts to win 39

NBA Parlay Pick: Bulls -520, Heat -500, Pacers -600, Thunder -380, 5pts to win 5.54

2012 NBA Champion pick: Spurs +350, 20pts. to win 70

2012 NBA Playoff Predictions, First Round Picks

I have to admit that I had a tough time getting into the NBA after the lockout. I don’t really know why as I’ve gotten passed being riled up over the absurdity of billionaires fighting millionaires. Possibly it was just the fact that the schedule was so compressed that getting a sense of what was really going on was actually more difficult than usual. There were nights that veteran teams were almost literally taking the night off because they had played so many games in a short stretch.           I originally thought this would lead to some upsets in the first round of the playoffs. For example, I don’t think the Mavericks are a typical 7 th seed. I think they just had everything on cruise control to get through the jam packed schedule. But as the season was wrapping up they were the only team I was thinking had a chance to pull off a major first round upset according to the seeds, and they ended up with a terrible matchup against the Thunder. At this point the only tea

A couple wins by the #Phillies has eased some angst. Sweeping the Cubs would go a long way to reviving the fans.

#Flyers play a 6-game series and have to wait all this time to play? One more reason the NHL is the 4th or 5th sport in terms of popularity.

Have to admit I love that Michael Jordan's team is the worst in NBA history. Yes, @JonMarks975, I was a hater on MJ. IMO Sixers get at least one title if he wasn't around in the '90s.

#Sixers get the STANK off! The franchise no longer has the stigma of the worst record in NBA history. Lockout makes it about percentages, but I'll take it. Bobcats finished 7-59 for .106; '72-73 Sixers were 9-73 for .110.

All the strong opinions from fans on the draft are laughable. We know nothing 99.9% of the time; maybe 3 people in the media can legitimately offer opinions, but EVERYONE does.

#Eagles did what they do in the draft: move up, take a lineman. Lots of people like Fletcher Cox, and he's from a big time school. He seems like a solid pick.

Leaving the Eagles’ Nest for Steelers Nation

The Eagles will never win a Super Bowl in our lifetime.           My buddy was paying off our annual over/under bet on the Eagles with lunch at Slack’s Hoagies, and he said those words to me back in December. (Obviously, I took the under.) They were said in a matter-of-fact tone, and rang as true as if he’d said grass is green.           This isn’t meant to be just another rant about the Eagles. There have been plenty of them in my 40 years on this planet. Only once or twice have I toyed with the idea of abandoning my fandom of the Eagles, and those efforts were more like protests seeking change. As a kid declaring that I wouldn’t root for the team until they fired Marion Campbell during the second half of his final season was the closest I ever came to dropping the Birds.           Yet, the only real only change that has come recently is in my interest level. I had more interest in watching the RedZone than Eagles’ games the last two seasons. I’ve grown to genuine

Much respect to @BrianDawkins as he retires; opposite of McNabb: always showed up, took the heat when necessary, and "got it."

I actually am excited about the #NBA playoffs; packed season made it too hard to get a feel for individual games; who's playing the 3rd game in 3 nights? who's hurt? Finally, back to normal.

#Sixers officially make the playoffs. Wish I could get excited.

Could we just let @TimTebow play QB? Jets want him on special teams? Gimmicky & stupid.

If the latest rumors are true, the Saints deserve whatever they get. Cheating is worse than bounties.

#ESPN is killing it's own shows. Turned off @PTI & @AroundtheHorn b/c of the idiotic commercials w/ athletes. I'm already watching! Why the hell advertise ESPN on ESPN??

#Phillies split a series with the #Padres; what else can you say?

Metta World Peace? Oh, I don't think so, Ron. Even @stephenasmith didn't defend him after the cheap shot on national TV. He should be gone as long as Harden is out, plus a game or two.

#Flyers dispatch Pens; Bryzgalov seemed to settle in a little, but can a team that gave up 10 goals in one game really contend?

Listening to the @MLBNetwork broadcast of Yankees/Red Sox is mind numbing. The favoritism given these two teams is ridiculous!

National media should be EMBARRASSED for not calling McNabb out for calling himself a HOFer and totally misrepresenting his career!

#McNabb "We talk about the 5 NFC Championships" WHAT? Asshole: you won 1, not 5! Is he completely delusional???

McNabb is a product of too much coddling from parents & org. Leaders don't announce they're leaders; HOFers don't think NFC title games are "the" big game.

The more #McNabb talks, the dumber he sounds. Calling yourself a HOFer is the height of arrogance, especially when you're not. And he's NOT.

#Sixers roll & Bucks lose, all but giving the 76ers the 8th seed & a series with the Bulls. They might not get swept...but nothing more.

No sweep for the #Flyers. 5 goals given up by each goalie - advancing won't even matter. Neither team can win the Cup w/ these goalies.

Cliff Lee pitches 10 innings of shutout baseball...and the #Phillies lose 1-0. Disgrace.

@SixersCEOAdam Since you asked: must amnesty/trade Iguodala (here's why http://bit.ly/JeAAn5); no one is must keep, but Young is close.

Early Eagles Week-by-Week Predictions

After hearing the ridiculous homerism from Tony Bruno this afternoon in going through the Eagles schedule and predicting an impossible 13-3 record, I decided to go through it myself. These obviously are not “picks,” and essentially mean nothing, but I had to throw my two cents out there. Here’s my guess at how the Eagles might do this season: 1 Sun, Sep 9 @ Cleveland 1:00 PM FOX – Win, though the Eagles are notorious for losing the opener. 2 Sun, Sep 16 vs Baltimore 1:00 PM CBS – Loss, Baltimore’s just better, and if they win the opener they certainly won’t win the home opener. 3 Sun, Sep 23 @ Arizona 4:05 PM FOX – Win, I could actually see a loss here. West coast trips are tough. 4 Sun, Sep 30 vs New York Giants 8:20 PM NBC, Win, this is probably optimistic. 5 Sun, Oct 7 @ Pittsburgh 1:00 PM FOX, Loss, predicting a win here is simply being a fan. Yes, I’ve donned the black and gold as a fan, but there’s no way to predict an Eagles win in Pittsburgh as of

@HARRYMAYES975 kudos on unfollowing @TonyBrunoShow; also had to "unlisten" 12-2 a lot - too many #BrunoSeniorMoments on air!

Worst homerism ever heard; @TonyBrunoShow puts #Eagles at 13-3 this season #BrunoSeniorMoments

Optimistically, I have the #Eagles 8-8 with a quick early look at the schedule.

Kevin Kolb is annoyed the Cardinals didn't communicate about pursuing Manning; where do these guys get off? He sucked & Manning is a HOFer!

#NFL seems poised to eliminate kickoffs; punts will be next; all for player safety but this is going too far

#Phillies already on the west coast sucks, but 4 runs off Lincecum in the 1st eases the pain

#Sixers hold 8th (& 7th) seed by with 6 games left; would be colossal collapse to miss playoffs but may be better. Blow it up...somehow.

#Sixers lose to depleted Magic; as @HARRYMAYES975 would say, "What is going on back there?" #WIGOBT

Still can't believe the #Sixers lost to the frikkin' Nets Friday night; hope they don't even make the playoffs now - it will be embarrassing

WEAK! RT @937TeenWolf The Flyers have played dirty in history, but I've NEVER seen them play as violently and as underhanded as this. This is just disgusting.

Weak goals given up by Bryzgalov has to concern #Flyers fans going forward; can't get behind every game to better teams

We may never see this again RT @CSNPhilly PHILLIES, FLYERS BOTH SCORE 8!

At least the #Phillies are hitting a little bit, but losing 2 of 3 erased any calm I was starting to feel

Just turned the #Phillies on...3-0 Mets? #WTF Lee?

Lost my longest #StreakfortheCash at 11; damn! Show me how it's done at http://streak.espn.go.com/en/group?groupID=183837

Will admit, NBA season seems to mean little for established teams w/ condensed schedule. #Playoffs will be hard to predict.

The Heat lost to the Bulls w/a weakened Rose? Maybe @KingJames is right about # of titles. Not 1, not 2, not 3, and certainly not more.

Heard Halladay pitches EVERY 5 days per contract. Doesn’t t-off Lee/Hamels? Guess if you’re THAT good... Seems confirmed at http://bit.ly/ICZ3FD

Freddy Galvis is tied w/ @HunterPence3 to lead the #Phillies in RBI - go figure

It’s kind of funny how fast a series win (and a bunch of hits) can calm #Phillies fans, myself included.

#Sixers even got into the act with a W over the lowly Raptors; excitement is gone; they will be 1-&-done

Can Roy pitch every night? Not trusting this lineup even after 7 runs against Johnson

Amazing Philly Sweep last night capped by Bryzgalov shutting down the Pens after the 1st

Just heard #Flyers fan say taking out #Crosby is key to winning series. #StayClassy

Could be a long summer #Phillies

RT @JonMarks975 RIP Steve Fredericks, who lost his battle to Pancreatic Cancer. Steve and Mike Show = The best Philly Radio Show of all time

Hits are absolutely pouring in with this “tweet” (actually re-tweet) on Steve Fredericks. Feel free to leave remembrances in the comments section or Facebook page.

#Phillies break out for...1

#Phillies 0-0 through 4.5; get used to it

Agree w/ @mcuban - 3yrs before college players can enter the draft is desperately needed #NBA

Split of Tournament Picks Increases Overall Winning Total

Thursdays had been the day I would update how my picks did from the previous week. With the NCAA Tournament wrapping up on Monday, baseball getting started today (or was it last night? or last week? or tomorrow?), and the NBA playoffs right around the corner, I thought I’d post a quick status report. I’m not like Joe Younes on 97.5 and some others (Tony Bruno) who scream about big winners . . . and just sort of ignore when they get crushed.           Despite a pretty weak bracket, I came out ahead on actual picks in the Tournament going 1-1 for +75 points. Missouri torpedoed my pool and my prop pick (along with Duke) that no 16, 15, or 14, would win a game in the real opening round for -50 points. But my 50-point pick on Kentucky to win it all at +250 brought in +125 points.           Readers who follow this blog may remember that I took a break from making picks in early January. Since my last update on December 22, here’s how my picks went: December 22 - Decem

@Sixers Thank God the #Phillies start tomorrow

Tough to beat the Heat AND the officials #Sixers

Tinkering with Tweeting from the Blog

As readers may have noticed yesterday, I am experimenting with originating “tweets” from the blog. After a few missteps, I think I have it working.           For this to work on as many outlets as possible, I seem to have to put the “tweet” in the headline part of the Blogger template. The tweet should look normal on Twitter, and seems perfectly readable on Facebook. It even comes up on the philly.com blog section.           If I write an actual post, the headline should appear on all four outlets, with a link after the headline on Twitter. Apparently, there is always a link on Twitter and philly.com, but hopefully the wording of a headline versus a tweet will be obvious for those readers. Facebook should still give a brief preview of the article (no doubt with words mashed together as if I can’t edit at all; that’s a Facebook issue), and, obviously, the post will be clear on Blogger. For now, e-mail subscriptions appear to be malfunctioning for reasons unrelated to t

Heard about 1hr of #Flyers talk on @MikeMiss – enough to remind me why the sport will always be 4th. Focus on fights & retaliation, over winning. #Stupid

I thought I’d give the blog some life, and attempt to “tweet” from the original Ink home. This may be incredibly short lived.
